Our tips on how you can have the perfect springtime wedding

Wedding bouquet
Pick your flowers

Opting for in-season blooms like tulips, hyacinths and narcissi can save you money – leaving room in your budget to spend elsewhere. There are no shortage of beautiful fragrant spring flowers to choose from, including (of course) the daffodil, the national flower of Wales. We also love statement-making springtime wedding options such as branches of cherry blossom, forsythia and sweet-scented wisteria for backdrops and centrepieces. Less traditional options that you could incorporate into table displays could include verdant grasses, moss (a current trend) or even spring produce such as strawberries.

Add a theme

If you would like a springtime theme to go with your springtime wedding, Easter-inspired ideas are on-trend for spring 2025. If there will be children at your event, keep them entertained with an Easter egg hunt or even a miniature petting zoo (with Easter bunnies, of course!). You don’t have to go overboard with this theme. Subtle additions could include Easter egg favours and prettily dyed egg (real or fake) place cards or escort cards, plus decorative wicker baskets of spring flowers. For a May wedding, you could also build a unique springtime theme around a maypole. Wrapped in spring garlands and draped with ribbons, it provides a fun focal point for your festivities.

Plan your wedding food

Weddings are all-day affairs, which means you’ll want to think about catering options that will keep guests well fed throughout your special day. Whether you opt for a traditional three-course meal or a relaxed buffet, a springtime wedding gives you the chance to serve a thematic, seasonal menu built around the abundance of fresh, local ingredients. At The Great House, we regularly change our menus to reflect seasonality and the availability of local produce. Not only are seasonal ingredients cheaper to source, they are also a more sustainable option – a huge trend in wedding planning right now.

Create a colour scheme
Create a colour scheme

Pastel shades are a traditional choice for a springtime wedding – but they don’t have to be your only option. Choose the colours you love to celebrate your love. Soft yellows and pale pinks may be classic choices for this time of year, but green is another great option that is very popular right now. Mixing bright spring greens with vivid emerald and darker, more intense forest hues creates a harmonious yet dramatic colour scheme.

Choose your music
Choose your music

From selecting a tune for your first dance as a married couple to whether to hire a band or a DJ, there are many musical decisions to be made when planning your springtime wedding. While creating a playlist of the songs you love might work for your reception, choosing ceremony music requires some careful thought. First, figure out the total number of songs you’ll need and how much time each part of the service will take. You’ll want to plan for the prelude (when guests are taking their seats), the processional (which often includes entrances for parents, the wedding party, and both partners), and the recessional (a celebratory tune as you leave the venue). It’s usually best to check with your venue first to see if there are any restrictions on musical choices and then take it from there.

Personalise the evening entertainment
Personalise the evening entertainment

A springtime wedding offers at least the promise of some spring sunshine. However, chilly evenings mean you’ll want to take your reception indoors. Themed after-parties are a popular trend for 2025. This will be different from your daytime theme and should be feel unique to you. Think customised cocktails, quirky details and an intimate atmosphere. While the size of your guest list is entirely up to you (and your budget) one notable trend in wedding planning currently is for smaller, more personal after-parties. While post-Covid brides and grooms prioritised getting large groups of guests together in one place, couples in 2025 are opting for more intimate events that allow them to celebrate with the people who matter most to them.

Last – but definitely not least – you’ll want to find the perfect venue to accommodate all your springtime wedding ideas. With its historic Grade II*-listed building, stylish bedrooms and beautiful gardens that burst into new life in spring, we think The Great House in South Wales is the perfect venue for a springtime wedding. It’s an ideal size for exclusive-use hire and our private dining rooms provide spaces for intimate parties, bigger celebrations and multi-day events.
